GREEN BAY, Wis. — When the Packers get back together for training camp next month, there are not nearly as many questions at the wide receiver position as last year.
Entering his third season, wide receiver Romeo Doubs has done all of the right things to position himself to have a strong season. His work in Organized Team Activities and minicamp even earned the praise of his head coach.
“I think Rome’s had an outstanding spring, I really do," said Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur. "It's evident by the work that he puts in on a daily basis. He's in there in the morning, catching off the jugs. He's one of the last guys to leave the building. He's very deliberate about the work he puts in and I think it showed. He's had a lot of great moments. And matter of fact, I can't think of a bad day that he's had out there. He is definitely improving.”
The soft-spoken Doubs is not the type to talk about himself.
I asked him if his preparations were any different this offseason.
“No man. I was just being a football player," said Doubs. "A guy that trains. I got with Jordan a couple of times during this offseason, trying to learn more football.
Doubs said he'll get together again for more work with Packers quarterback Jordan Love in California before training camp. Doubs has always been in Love's corner.
“When I first got here, my reps started with Jordan, and just from the time I got here, up until this point, he knows better than I do," said Doubs. "The expectation is growth. And I think he's doing a phenomenal job at it. He has had some bumps, throughout the course of last year, and he figured it out.”
Romeo's catch total increased from 42 in his rookie year to 59 with eight touchdowns last year. He's ready for the expectations this season.
“Outside looking in, the expectations are high," said Doubs. "But I'm confident in who we have. The sky's the limit for us all.”
Doubs said he was most looking forward to family time before training camp. He has a young daughter.
