WISCONSIN — As we make our way to mid-June this week, tick season across Wisconsin and much — of the country — is in full swing.

"Ticks are out in full force this time of year," said Rebecca Osborn, a vector-borne disease epidemiologist with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. "June is the month where we see the most tick-borne diseases being transmitted, so if you haven't already thought about tick prevention and tick bites, now it's time to start."

While Osborn said a tick or tick bite is not necessarily anything to panic about, preventing it from happening in the first place is preferred.

"When you're getting ready to go outside, we recommend using an insect repellent, one that's got an EPA-registered product in it," Osborn said. "The other thing to think about is where you're going to be outside — try your best to avoid really grassy, brushy, wooded areas."
