EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The Madison Police Department is searching for a person of interest in an attempted homicide case.
Police have identified that man as 37-year-old Jerome Jacobs. Eau Claire Police Department on Tuesday said they saw Jacobs and attempted to pull him over when Jacobs crashed his vehicle and ran away near the area of Broadway Street and 9th Avenue in Eau Claire.
However, after an extensive search of the area, police said they were unable to find him.
Police said investigators will continue to follow leads.
In a Facebook post made Tuesday, police told citizens to avoid the area or shelter in place. That recommendation has now been lifted.
The department said Jacobs was last seen in the area pictured below and was wearing all blue.
Police said they want to talk with Jacobs about his connection to a shooting that occurred in Madison Sunday night, which left two people injured. Police were called to the scene around 10:46 p.m. on June 9 near Trafalger Place and Andrew Way. A caller had reported hearing 20 shots.
Jacobs currently has a felony DOC warrant.
Police asked for continued vigilance as they attempt to locate the suspect.
“If you see him, do not approach and contact authorities immediately,” police said.
Anyone seeing suspicious activity or with information about Jacobs' whereabouts is encouraged to report it to the police department at 715-839-4972.
