MILWAUKEE — As tributes to the late Marquette University president, Dr. Michael Lovell, continued to pour in Monday as more people learned of his weekend passing following a years-long cancer fight, some who knew him best had no doubt his legacy in Milwaukee will continue on for years to come.
"His influence on the community has been broad and deep and extended over the course of his time at Marquette, and even prior to that when he was at UW-Milwaukee as the chancellor there," said Joel Brennan, president of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, who'd worked with Lovell in various roles and on various initiatives through the years.
Brennan added that he hoped all the tributes that continued to come in for Dr. Lovell help to provide comfort to his family.
"I hope his family feels the warm embrace of the community," Brennan said. "Mike and Amy Lovell were partners and they have been partners in the Marquette community, in the Milwaukee community, there work on mental health— Amy is a leader in her own right— I know she's hurting and the community is hurting along with them."
