WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Come Monday, the Wauwatosa School Board will get a first official look at a new proposal which could eventually lead to the closure of Whitman and Longfellow middle schools. The proposal could also reconfigure which classes and students are in certain schools going forward.
"We're using the language that we're 'relocating' Longfellow and Whitman Middle School. We're not closing any schools; we're relocating them and utilizing property we have and space we have at Wauwatosa West and Wauwatosa East," said Demond Means, the superintendent for the Wauwatosa School District.
In addition to some facilities changes, the long-range plan dubbed Tosa 2075 would lead to "a shift in grade configuration from a JK-5, middle school and high school model to a JK-6 and 7-12 model."
"This proposal is at least five years out," Means said. "But we wanted to be very comprehensive in sharing our vision and our plan for the future of the district."
