  • It will offer private tours throughout the region during the event

  • It's also been chosen to provide locally sourced gift boxes for in-room welcomes at the convention

The local tour company is set to welcome RNC guests with special tours highlighting historic buildings, artwork and local cuisine.

The founder of Milwaukee Food and City Tours, Theresa Nemetz, said she’s eager to share special spots and delicious bites with visitors when they are in town for the convention from July 15-18.

“We are excited to show off the natural beauty of Milwaukee. There are so many hidden gems people may not know about in Milwaukee, and then, of course, the delicious cuisine,” said Nemetz.

Tour guide Bo Johnson, who will be working during the convention, said he loves showcasing the city’s diverse architectural styles.

“The Victorians, Queen Annes, Art Deco. There are so many different examples of art and architecture,” said Johnson.

In addition to daily walking and bus tours within the city, Milwaukee Food and City Tours is offering day trips outside of Milwaukee during the RNC for anyone who might want to see other parts of the area. The company is also able to do personalized private group tours to fit specific schedules and interests.

“We have an ‘Around the Ward in 90 Minutes’ walking tour, we also have our ‘Milwaukee Pizza Bus Tour,’ our ‘Tacos and Tequila Tour,’ and a Brady Street Tour,” said Nemetz. “This summer, we are launching a new tour called, Dairyland Delight. It launches from the Fiserv Forum Deer District. We go for a walking tour and visit places like the Wiener Window, Usinger Sausage, and you get to enjoy local beer, cheese and butter burgers.”

Nemetz said she was very proactive as soon as she heard the RNC was coming to town. She attended meetings and pitched her business. Ultimately, Milwaukee Food and City Tours was selected to create a welcome kit of Wisconsin products for convention attendees.

“Within those welcome bags, we are putting Milwaukee and Wisconsin-made products, like candy from Freese’s at the Milwaukee Public Market, cheese from the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, and Usinger Sausage,” said Nemetz.
