OSHKOSH, Wis. — With an occasional tap of a horn, Nathan Palmer makes his way around the loading dock and aisles of neatly stacked materials at Amcor’s facility in Oshkosh.

What You Need To Know

  • Amcor in Oshkosh is seeking people to fill 30 office and 90 manufacturing positions

  • Amcor has 14 locations in Wisconsin

  • The company employs about 4,600 people in the state

He’s worked there in shipping and receiving the past two and a half years.

“I cycle count our warehouse. I make sure that all the inventory that it says is there is actually there,” Palmer said about one of the main aspects of his job. “I’ll organize the shipments so they go out on time to the customers.”

Palmer said it’s not just moving pallets in and out of the Oshkosh facility where he sees his work — and the work of his co-workers — firsthand.

“If you ever go to the hospital and you can see the product, you’re like, ‘I know where that's from. I helped put that out the door. I helped make that, put that out to the customer,’” he said. “It’s pretty cool to see that side of it, as well as in here getting to make it.”

From packaging for pharmaceuticals to beverages, Amcor develops and manufactures packaging for a wide spectrum of products and industries.

Packing for health care is the specialty of the operation in Oshkosh.

Open positions range from engineers and information technology specialists to lamination operators and manufacturing technicians.

“We currently have 90 manufacturing openings and we have around 30 office positions available as well,” said Josh Ingram, the director of human resources. “We’re looking for people who are highly motivated and really want to be part of something I think is really special.”

Amcor has 14 plants in Wisconsin, with most of them in the Fox Valley, and employs about 4,600 people in the state.

“About 40% of all of our openings are filled by internal candidates,” Ingram said. “We really try to encourage not only promotional opportunities but also lateral opportunities to expand someone’s skill set.”

Palmer said part of what keeps him coming back is the safety culture and the people he works with. He had no prior manufacturing experience.

“I’ve always felt welcomed every time I’ve been here,” he said. “You can just walk through the hall, smile at somebody you don’t even know and they smile back and say, ‘Have a great day.’”
