MILWAUKEE — For Wisconsinites waiting until Saturday morning to hit the road for their Memorial Day weekend travel, experts say the earlier, the better to avoid near record-high numbers of drivers out there through the holiday weekend.
"Saturday morning will probably be your best time," said Nick Jarmusz with AAA Wisconsin. "Then, any time the rest of the weekend that you can head out before noon is going to be better than the afternoon or early evening."
While Jarmusz said the number of Wisconsinites on the road through the weekend will likely rank just behind 2019's all-time record high, travelers at area airports will play a part in a record-breaking weekend there.
"We're looking at the second-highest travel volume [overall] in the past 25 years," Jarmusz added. "If we look at air travel specifically, we're actually smashing pre-pandemic records and setting all new records [for] an all-time high of air travelers this weekend."
