CUDAHY, Wis. — The state’s largest shooting range and gun retail store, Eagle Sports Range, opened in Cudahy last year.
April Nicole lives in Southeast Wisconsin. She says hunting is in her family’s DNA.
Nicole earned her Hunter’s safety license when she was 14 years old and her conceal and carry permit when she turned 21.
She said she was impressed by the size of the 50,000 square foot range during her first visit to the range.
“In Wisconsin I feel like there has been a lack of good ranges, especially indoor ranges and with us having hardy winters, I think this is the perfect place because indoor and heated and they have a lot of different guns that I have not seen here before,” said Nicole.
Nicole has an extensive collection of firearms and takes gun safety seriously.
“I think the most important part of owning a firearm is going through the training, going through the safety and getting extremely familiar with the weapon you are carrying on your body,” said Nicole.
Todd Jayber, General Manager of Eagle Sports, said there are 40 shooting lanes and a vast selection of firearms.
“Even though we are the largest range in the state of Wisconsin, that doesn’t mean anything if we’re not doing the right things and we try to make sure our customers are safe in training them in anything that they may need,” said Jayber.
It’s an outlook Nicole says she embraces as a serious gun owner.
“I would hope everyone who owns a firearm or is around a firearm takes a class to at least be educated in it and if they do own it to train with it regularly,” said Nicole.
