WISCONSIN — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers on Tuesday called for two special elections to be held later this year.

The first is for the 4th Senate District seat, which is currently vacant after State Sen. Lena Taylor resigned to join the Milwaukee County Circuit Court. The second is for the 8th Congressional District seat. That seat is also vacant following the resignation of U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher.

Both executive orders issued by Evers Tuesday set dates for special elections for both seats.

For the 4th Senate District seat, the election will be held on July 30, 2024. A primary will be held on July 2, 2024 if necessary.

The election for the 8th Congressional District seat will be on Nov. 5, 2024, which coincides with the 2024 general election. A primary will be held on Aug. 13, 2024 if necessary.

The order also said that nomination papers for candidates in both of these seats can begin Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Those must be filed by 5 p.m. on June 4, 2024.
