MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks playoff schedule is leaving some Milwaukee area college students unsure of when they will graduate. It is impacting both Marquette University and Milwaukee Area Technical College, who will both hold their commencement ceremonies at Fiserv Forum.

What You Need To Know

  • The Bucks playoff schedule is leaving two Milwaukee colleges unsure of when they will be able to hold commencement.

  • Marquette University will hold commencement either on May 11 or May 12

  • MATC will hold their commencement the weekend of May 17

Marquette University will hold their commencement on either May 11 or May 12. The university expects to know which date by April 28 at the earliest, or May 4 at the latest, depending upon the Bucks playoff performance and game schedules.

Spectrum News 1 reached out to Marquette University, but no one was available for an interview. According to a university published newsletter sent to students, the university told the campus community “Marquette leaders share in our students’ and their families’ frustrations and continue to ask for patience and understanding while the university awaits the Bucks’ schedule.”

While there is only a one day difference for when graduation will be held, it is leading to some frustration for students. One Marquette senior named Veronica, who asked that we only use her first name, said her family is traveling from New York for the commencement, and not having exact information is making planning difficult.

“Both my parents work so they are taking extra days off work booking extra hotel dates, staying longer than they probably need to because they are just unsure," she said.

Grace Batkoff is a Marquette junior, but has a boyfriend who is graduating in May. Batkoff said she understands the anxiety he and his classmates are feeling.

“It is a little bit frustrating especially if you have family from out of town and kinda planning around that,” said Batkoff.

A mile away at MATC, commencement dates are also in flux. According to the college website, commencement will be held the weekend of May 17-19, although an exact date remains to be determined. A college spokesperson says they are working to get students and families an answer about the exact graduation day as soon as possible.
