Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing is one of 15 military installations across the U.S. under consideration to house the KC-46A Pegasus air tanker from the United States Air Force.
Col. Charles Merkel, Commander of the 128th Air Refueling Wing, said the wing is already a major driver of the economy in southeast Wisconsin.
He said securing the KC-46A Pegasus would only further increase that impact - with an estimated additional $84-million flowing into Wisconsin.
The 128th Air Refueling Wing has served the people of Wisconsin and the United States since its establishment in 1947.
During that time, it's worked on natural disasters and helped with American efforts in the Korean War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope and Operation Deny Flight.
