MILWAUKEE — There’s no need to place more pressure on Milwaukee Brewers’ rookie Jackson Chourio.
An eight-year, $82 million contract before you’ve played an inning in the majors speaks volumes.
Still, there’s little denying that Tuesday’s home opener marked the start of the outfielder being a key cog to the Brewers’ future.
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio smiled and admitted that a franchise like the Brewers has to take “measured risks” when I asked him about his reaction to Chourio’s contract.
Attanasio said it’s important that Brewers fans can watch Chourio develop.
Through an interpreter, Chourio said that the contract is just part of the “blessing” of being with the Brewers. He said the organization has always supported him and he can “just go out and perform.”
Chourio said he is very aware of the example that he’s setting for youngsters in his native Venezuela.
He said he already feels “at home” in Milwaukee.
The Brewers hope he marks the start of a new, fun and successful era.
