MILWAUKEE — Hundreds of Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) students are about to take the next step in their careers.
As part of National Residency Match Day, they have received their placement for their medical residency.
Ashley Pittman has been looking forward to this day for a long time.
She said she will be going to Vanderbilt University.
“I decided to go into urology as a sophomore in college and now almost 10 years later, the day has finally come to celebrate all of my classmates and colleagues,” said Pittman.
Pittman said her goal is to address health care disparities in underrepresented communities. Pittman said she believes she will be in a position to do just that.
“I want to be able to be a positive representation for little boys and little girls who like myself [want] give back to communities to where I was brought up and just really able to give back to communities that are in need,” said Pittman.
Pittman said she believes Vanderbilt represents the best opportunity to be an inspiration to the next generation.
“Vanderbilt was my number one program,” said Pittman. “I feel like everything that they offer... They have so much female leadership and I feel like I really get a chance to learn from the giants in the field of urology.”
For Pittman, it’s exciting to celebrate everyone’s success
Raquel Valdes got accepted into UC-San Francisco. She is studying to be an OB-GYN.
“I want to dedicate myself to making sure women are healthy, making sure their labor and delivery experience is amazing and I believe we are such an important part of society that I am really passionate about women’s health,” said Valdes.
Jose Franco is the senior associate dean for education at MCW. He congratulated students for taking the next step in their journey.
“They are a part of the Medical College of Wisconsin family and we will always be there to support them,” said Franco. “Some of today’s graduates will actually be staying in the Milwaukee area so we will continue to work with them. Some of them for up to the next seven years, but wherever their final destination is, we are there to support them.”
After years of hard work, the students’ time at MCW has come to an end, and they look forward to a promising future wherever match day takes them.
