GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Packers released All-Pro offensive tackle David Bakhtiari on Monday.
Bakhtiari took to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, Monday morning to share the news before it was announced by General Manager Brian Gutekunst later Monday.
“A lot of emotion in this. I just want to say THANK YOU Green Bay. Thank you for the last 11 years. It’s been a hell of a run,” Bakhtiari said in part.
A lot of emotion in this. I just want to say THANK YOU Green Bay. Thank you for the last 11 years. It’s been a hell of a run. I always wanted to raise a Lombardi on Lombardi avenue, but I will never complain. I gave it my all. I always gave it my best no matter the circumstance… pic.twitter.com/dnc7gkKSAC

"We want to thank David for an exceptional 11 seasons in Green Bay. From the moment he arrived, David established himself as one of the premier tackles of his generation and one of the best linemen in the history of the Packers," said Gutekunst, "His commitment and impact on the field and in the locker room cannot be overstated. We look forward to his inevitable induction into the Packers Hall of Fame and we hope for the best for David and his family moving forward."
The move was expected. Bakhtiari hasn’t been the same since tearing his ACL in practice on New Year’s Eve in 2020. Since then, he’s only played in 13 of a possible 57 games. The Packers will save nearly $21 million in salary cap space by releasing Bakhtiari, who will turn 33 during next season.
"David is one of the best offensive linemen that has played in the NFL during my time in the league. His consistency and approach to his craft is unmatched," said Head Coach Matt LaFleur. "David's presence extended beyond his impact on the field as he was a cornerstone of the Packers in the locker room when I arrived and was a great resource to our young team. We wish the best for David, his wife, Frankie, and their daughter, Felix, in the future."
Bakhtiari, 32, was selected by the Packers as a fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played 11 seasons in Green Bay and was named All-Pro five times, making him the most decorated offensive tackle since the late Forrest Gregg.
