MILWAUKEE — The birthday gifts keep coming for Kam Jones. After scoring 34 points on his 22nd birthday vs Xavier, the junior guard has been named Big East Player of the Week.
Jones first hit his career high of 34 points Wednesday night in No. 7 Marquette's 105-71 rout of DePaul and followed up that performance with another 34 point game in the 88-64 win vs Xavier on Sunday. Jones hit a three-pointer with 4:39 remaining in the game vs Xavier to tie his career high. Coach Shaka Smart then subbed him out with Marquette, all but securing the win.
Jones hit eight three pointers in the win over DePaul and shot a combined 14-20 (70%) from deep over the two games. Overall, the sharpshooter was 23-32 (71.6%) from the floor, while adding four steals in the two wins.
With these two outings, Jones becomes the first Big East player since Markus Howard to score 34 or more points in consecutive conference games. The former Marquette star achieved this feat during the 2019-20 season.
This is Jones’ third 30+ point game this season, and he will try to go for three straight 30-point games this Wednesday when the Golden Eagles host Providence.
Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. CST and the game will be aired on FS1.
