MEQUON, Wis. — On Feb. 13, Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor (CUWAA) President Erik Ankerberg told faculty and staff that “staff reductions” were likely coming.

Ankerberg made the announcement in a monthly briefing to faculty and staff. He said CUWAA is “facing financial instability despite recent growth in enrollment at each campus.”

A recent review of the university’s finances was completed on Feb. 1, and the president said based on that review, CUWAA “must reduce costs to operate sustainably within existing revenues.”

Ankerberg said this is likely to include “staff reductions” at both the Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mequon, Wis., campuses. Additionally, there may be “disposition of property, facilities, and equipment at the Ann Arbor campus.”

The Concordia Board of Regents will meet at the end of the month and approve next steps based on the university’s new strategic plan.
