WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Lights, camera, love: The Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse is re-opening its doors, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The Rosebud, located at 6823 W. North Avenue in Wauwatosa, Wis., will re-open on Feb. 14. Movie-goers can see “Madame Web,” a new Marvel superhero movie, at 6:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
The theater will continue to screen the first-run film throughout the month. Tickets are already available on the movie theater’s website.
Like many Milwaukee-area theaters, the cinema has been closed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rosebud was built in 1931 and offers a single cinematic screen and loveseat-style seating. The art-deco style theater is operated by the Neighborhood Theatre Group.
“After much work and amazing community support, we are pleased to be able to be in a position to open the doors once again at the Rosebud Cinema,” Lee Barczak, co-owner, said. “It has always been a goal to bring first-run movies and events back to Wauwatosa and are excited to reach that goal.”
In Sept. 2023, the Wauwatosa community started holding meetings about ways to revive the theater. Initial talks included converting it into a nonprofit. While earlier re-opening dates were set, they were later postponed. In Dec. 2023, the theater took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to explain the re-opening date would be contingent on licensing.
