New tenants will start to move into the 50-floor luxury high-rise The Couture on April 1, 2024. It’s a project that has been 12 years in the making.

Rick Barrett, CEO of Barrett Lo Visionary Development, is the developer behind Milwaukee’s newest skyscraper, which overlooks Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee Art Museum and Summerfest grounds.

“I’m ecstatic about this building and what this says for Milwaukee, so from my perspective it just encapsulates greatness,” Barrett said.

The Couture features 322 residential units, along with retail and restaurant space. It includes amenities such as an outdoor terrace with a swimming pool, a fitness center, a dog park and more. The Hop’s new streetcar line also runs under The Couture.

Barrett said there’s been about 50 apartment showings, and one of the two penthouses has been leased.

“The building has units that are small and more cost effective, it has penthouses that are incredible for people who want to be downtown that are moving away from the suburbs, and it has the middle range of units for people who want to be in an urban environment,” Barrett said.

As a Milwaukee native, Barrett said he’s proud to bring The Couture to life. He said he hopes it shows other developers that Milwaukee is worth investing in.

“This piece of architecture, this piece of real estate, is just another example of Milwaukee does things the right way,” he said. “It certainly lets people know that a 50-story building can get done in Milwaukee, and in my mind, it is a place to do business. It is a place to invest in, and it’s a place to live.”
