WISCONSIN — Multiple Wisconsin chefs were named semifinalists for the James Beard Awards this year.

The James Beard Foundation announced the nominees for its 2024 Restaurant and Chef Awards on Wednesday. Nine Wisconsin culinary contenders made the cut.

These are the Wisconsin contenders for the 2024 awards:

  • Outstanding Chef semifinalist: Gregory León, Amilinda, Milwaukee
  • Emerging Chef semifinalist: Bryce Stevenson, Miijim, La Pointe, Wis.
  • Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker semifinalist: Syovata Edari, CocoVaa Chocolatier, Madison, Wis.
  • Outstanding Hospitality semifinalist: Pasture and Plenty, Madison, Wis.
  • Best Chef - Midwest semifinalist: Ross Bachhuber and Samuel Ek, Odd Duck, Milwaukee
  • Best Chef - Midwest semifinalist: Lisa Carlson and Carrie Summer, Chef Shack Bay City, Bay City, Wis.
  • Best Chef - Midwest semifinalist: Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite, EsterEv, Milwaukee
  • Best Chef - Midwest semifinalist: Kyle Knall, Birch, Milwaukee
  • Best Chef - Midwest semifinalist: Sean Pharr, Mint Mark, Madison, Wis.

In 2022, Dane Baldwin, the chef and owner of The Diplomat in Milwaukee, was named the Best Chef in the Midwest.

León was a finalist for Best Chef in the Midwest in 2023.
