The daily life of a surgical and pediatric nurse at Mercyhealth in Rock County includes a unique blend of high-paced challenges and pride in the work that’s done, which ultimately saves lives.

Mercyhealth nurse Allie Brink shared insight into her job that involves providing targeted care to both young and old patients.

“I was good at adjusting to people’s needs as a personality,” she said. “So, for me, it was a great fit because nobody was the same. I wake up every day happy to come here.”

Maggie Montano, who works in human resources for Mercyhealth, said the hospital system’s commitment to patients goes hand in hand with its commitment to staff.

She said the company provides professional development opportunities, career advancement and generous benefits like sign-on bonuses, competitive overtime rates and tuition assistance.

“We have great resources to provide for our community and give great care, but we are also small enough where our teams care for one another,” Montano said. “So, it is an awesome opportunity to work with a close team and serve your community.”

Mandy Jones, a registered nurse and manager of surgical and pediatrics for Mercyhealth, shared a similar message about the importance of maintaining a supportive work environment for employees.

“We want to take care of our patients first, but then also we are there for each other and help each other, whether it’s schedules or going to do something together,” she said.

Brink said not only has she found a good job, but she also found lifelong friends.

“I went on vacations with some of the girls here, so it was a great opportunity to meet new people and new friends, and overall, I just love what I’m doing,” she said.
