SUSSEX, Wis. — The sound of snow blowers and shovels echoed through the Village of Sussex. Joe Baumann braved the cold to clear off his driveway.

What You Need To Know

  • Sussex saw nearly 16 inches of snow

  • Many people were out shoveling their driveways

  • Ausblick Ski Hill hosted a Midwest Alpine race

“I probably shoveled eight times yesterday and three times today,” said Baumann.

Sussex saw nearly 16 inches of snow.

“I’m pretty sure this is the most snow I’ve seen in the past 10, 12 years,” said Baumann.

Across town, it was the same story for Colleen Dublinsky.

“When I was a kid, it seemed like we had snow like this all the time,” said Dublinsky. “Now it’s a rare event we have snow like this. I can put up with it. I’m a strong Wisconsinite.”

While shoveling can be a pain, she tries to see the positive of living here in Wisconsin, even if that means dealing with snow.

“Wisconsin is a great place to live,” said Dublinsky. “We have all four seasons and you get to enjoy each season on its own. If you’re going to have winter, why not have snow? That’s how I feel.”

The snow is ideal for those who enjoy winter sports. David Barry is a long-time member at Ausblick Ski Hill in Sussex. He said 400 athletes participated in a Midwest Alpine race on Saturday.

“It’s a perfect day for skiing,” said Barry. “It might not be the best day for a ski race because people had to get here early in the morning. We had to push that back a little because we had to get the snow away from the gates, but it’s going along real well.”

Whether you’re out on the slopes or clearing your driveway, most people will enjoy warming up after.

“I’m going to go in and take a hot shower and relax and not go anywhere today,” said Dublinsky.
