MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) said starting in the 2024-25 school year, all students will follow the same calendar.
MPS currently has two school calendars, meaning some students are on different schedules depending on what school they attend. The “early start” calendar launched in 2016.
Next year, everyone will utilize a single, district-wide calendar.
The Milwaukee Board of School Directors voted Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, to adopt the new single calendar system.
MPS leadership said the uniform schedule will save money on busing.
Additionally, it is expected to be more convenient for parents. MPS said families who filled out the MPS Strategic Plan survey in 2023 “overwhelmingly supported moving to a single calendar for the school year.”
The new calendar system will also help streamline district operations and lessen the impact of extreme heat on school days, MPS said.
The next MPS school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024.
