MILWAUKEE β Volleyball fans from around the world will be keeping a close eye on Tampa, Florida this week, as the Wisconsin Badgers women's volleyball team takes part in the NCAA Final Four.
And speaking of women's volleyball fans, there seem to be a lot more of them these days.
"Wisconsin was part of the most watched volleyball match of all-time when it played Minnesota on FOX in late October," said Jon Arias, the radio voice of UW volleyball. "1.6 million viewers watched that on network television and that has the potential to be upstaged on Sunday for whomever gets there because of the final being on ABC as it'll be on network television again."
The Badgers' potential run at a national championship, which would be their second in three seasons, begins anew Thursday night when they take on the University of Texas in their semifinal matchup, with the winner moving on to face the winner of the match between Nebraska and Pittsburgh.
"This team has such a physical block that it intimidates opponents," Arias said. "It's got so much size. They just beat Oregon in the Elite Eight and Oregon said it's the most physical team we've ever come across."
