MILWAUKEE — A police pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD).
At 11:48 a.m., police officers saw a vehicle connected to a Chicago homicide on the 9100 block of W. Thurston Avenue. MPD said officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not stop. A pursuit ensued, MPD said.
The vehicle collided with a school bus on N. 76th Street and W. Capitol Drive, which ended the pursuit. The school bus flipped from the impact. This caused additional collisions involving multiple other vehicles, MPD said.
The driver of the vehicle the police were pursuing was a 26-year-old man. He left the scene on foot. MPD engaged in a foot pursuit and arrested him. MPD said the suspect was transported to a hospital where he is being treated for non-fatal injuries.
There were two passengers in that car, including another 26-year-old and a 3-year-old. The 26-year-old passenger was transported to a local hospital for non-fatal injuries, MPD said. MPD said the 3-year-old suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a hospital.
The school bus driver was also transported to a hospital for non-fatal injuries. The school bus driver is 71 years old.
A driver of a vehicle that was part of the secondary collision was transported to the hospital for non-fatal injuries. That driver is 30 years old.
MPD said no other injuries from the multi-collision incident have been reported.
The incident is still under an ongoing investigation. MPD said any criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
