  • As eBikes grow in popularity, they expect ride growth to continue

Milwaukee's bike share system Bublr Bikes just broke an all-time ridership record this year. Bublr has seen more than 100,000 rides in 2023.

"I would definitely say in the winter our popularity goes down," Elizabeth Grout, Bublr's sponsorship and outreach manager, said. "Although our bikes are weather-proof, they're not Milwaukee-in-the-dead-of-January-proof. So our eBikes do come in at the beginning of December."

EBikes are electric-assist bikes. The electric assist kicks in when a rider is pedaling and stops if the rider surpasses a speed of 15 miles per hour.

"EBikes make the bike industry so much more accessible to people with a variety of abilities and age ranges, which I think is a beautiful thing that's happening in the industry as a whole," she said. "Bublr has rolled out eBikes over the past couple of years. They are definitely our most popular bike, especially among students. So we only hope to grow that in 2024."
