GREEN BAY, Wis. — I know that more mature observers like Gary Ellerson keep stressing words like growth and process. But, man, it’s getting old for me watching the Green Bay Packers lose close games. The latest setback was losing 23-19 Sunday in Pittsburgh. The Packers are 3-6.

The margin between winning and losing is razor thin in the NFL. You want evidence?

The Steelers are 6-3. To be fair, I did see progress on Sunday. Jordan Love made some nice plays and is growing as a quarterback.

Still, when you give up 205 yards rushing, it will be hard to win. Not that I attribute this loss to the defense — it just hurts. When you have an extra point blocked and boot a kickoff out of bounds, that’s not complimentary football. This team isn’t good enough to overcome those kind of mistakes.

Eight games remain for the Packers. Breathe deep. Look at the big picture. There will be more frustration. Hopefully, the growing pains will be worth it in the future. That’s what we have to tell ourselves.
