WAUWATOSA, Wis. — A Wisconsin-based company that manufactures electric fire trucks is looking to sell fire departments on the technology.

REV Fire Group is headquartered in Brookfield. They manufacture the all-electric Vector truck, and are currently traveling the state showing it off to different departments.

On Wednesday, fire chiefs from Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and West Allis got to see a demonstration of the technology and take a ride along.

Roger Lackore, director of product development for REV Fire Group, led the demonstrations at local departments. While he said that departments are sometimes skeptical of an electric fire truck, some minds change when they are able to see it in action.

“This is a really fun job because the minute you get somebody in this truck and driving it around, they want one themselves,” said Lackore.

The Wauwatosa Fire Department hosted Wednesday’s demonstration. Wauwatosa Fire Chief Jim Case said he isn’t certain if or when his department will purchase electric vehicles, but said it was very interesting getting to see the cutting edge of firefighting technology.

“We joked that in the past fire trucks used to be pulled by horses, then gas engines, then diesel engines and now electric. So, for me personally, to see where we probably are going to be in the future is very interesting for us,” said Chief Case.

Case said his department and the City of Wauwatosa would need to do a detailed cost analysis before making any decision on purchasing an electric truck.

The City of Madison recently purchased their first electric fire truck from a different manufacturer.
