WAUWATOSA, Wis. — A teenager in Wisconsin, who has a cooking show with a strong following on YouTube, just won a prestigious title at her high school.

Kitty Storey is a junior at Wauwatosa East High School. Her show, called “Cooking with Kitty” started during the pandemic.

Making different recipes together in the kitchen was a way for Kitty Storey and her family to stay busy and enjoy time together.

Kitty Storey has Down syndrome and autism. Cooking has also proven to be a great way for her to learn, build motor skills and practice speaking.

What her parents didn’t know when they started the show was how much it would help build her confidence and showcase her fun-loving personality. “Cooking with Kitty” has allowed more people to get to know and love Kitty Storey.

Just a few weeks ago, she was crowned homecoming queen at her high school.

“We were both stunned and brought to tears,” said Dan Storey, Kitty’s dad. “Just so excited. It was fantastic to see that in her school she is accepted and celebrated. To see the inclusion, and to see the neurodiverse and neurotypical children together, as if it’s completely commonplace, is so fantastic.”

Dan Storey said he is proud of the strides his daughter has made, and the support the community has shown. He said he hopes other families with kids who are viewed as “different” or “neurodivergent” see Kitty’s story and are reminded so much good is possible.
