WISCONSIN — Bulk candy store, CandyStore.com, released the most popular Halloween candy in every state.

The candy store has tracked candy sale data for more than 15 years.

In Wisconsin this year, the top candy of choice is Butterfinger, followed by Hot Tamales and Starburst. In Wisconsin, more than 106,928 pounds of Butterfingers have been sold from from 2007 to 2022. The state has also sold more than 104,263 pounds of Hot Tamales and more than 91,771 pounds of Starbursts during that time.

Nationwide, America’s favorite Halloween candy is Reese’s Cups, followed by M&M’s and Hot Tamales.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) said spending on Halloween candy is expected to hit $3.6 billion this year, which is a 16% increase from spending on treats last year, when the country spent $3.1 billion on candy. The average household spends $31.93 on candy.

NRF said 172 million Americans will celebrate Halloween, and 96% of them will purchase candy.

And if you’re planning on stashing some sweets for later, you’re not alone. NRF said more than 50% of parents stash Halloween candy to treat themselves with later in the year.

NRF said Halloween spending as a whole is expected to hit $12.2 billion this year, which is up by my than 15% in 2022.

“More Americans than ever will be reaching into their wallets and spending a record amount of money to celebrate Halloween this year,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Consumers will be shopping early for festive décor and other related items and retailers are prepared with the inventory to help customers and their families take part in this popular and fun tradition.”
