MILWAUKEE — In their history, the Arizona Diamondbacks had never come back from a three-run deficit in the postseason.
But in their 15th opportunity, they pulled it off, handing the Milwaukee Brewers a devastating 6-3 defeat in Game 1 of their best-of-three playoff series Tuesday night at American Family Field.
Staked to a 3-0 lead, Corbin Burnes couldn’t hold it. He lasted four plus innings and surrendered three home runs. We got spoiled by his past work. Burnes showed this season, and in Game 1, that he’s human.
This series is not over. Yet the “must win” cliche rings true for Game 2 Wednesday night. Season on the line. Freddy Peralta against 17-game winner Zac Gallen.
The Brewers need to find a way to get to Thursday. A solid outing by Peralta and better success with runners in scoring position might do the trick.
