WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is granting more than $1.1 million to schools in an effort to reduce and prevent alcohol use, tobacco use, opioids use and other drugs use among students.

The first grant is through the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AOD) Grant Program. DPI gave $907,978 to 46 projects that span 63 school districts.

The AOD Grant Program is state-funded and “aims to help schools teach skills and provide essential content knowledge aimed at preventing the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.”

The AOD grant funding is eligible to be renewed through the 2024-25 school year.

The second grant is through the Opioid Prevention Grant Program. DPI gave $250,000 to 23 school districts and private schools.

That funding aims “to support new or existing substance use prevention programs that are supplemented with knowledge and skills specific to opioid prevention.”
