I’ll be honest. Through three quarters, I didn’t think the Packers were going to beat the Saints Sunday at Lambeau Field. As they trailed 17-0, my thoughts wandered to things like, “this is what rebuilding looks like?” and “have the Packers ever been shut out at home under Matt LaFleur?”
For the Packers to come back and win 18-17 was nothing short of remarkable. I know the Saints helped with interference penalties and a missed field goal, but you still have to give credit to the Packers for pulling this one out to improve to 2-1.
What a first home opener as a starter for Jordan Love. His cool, unruffled personality played a part in this team, not panicking.
I’ve covered a lot of Packers games. The only other one I can think of like this one was the 2018 opener where Aaron Rodgers was carted off and returned to help the Packers beat the Bears 24-23.
There was no cart in this one, but the Packers pulled off the victory despite missing several of their key players. Aaron Jones. Christian Watson. David Bakhtiari. Elgton Jenkins. Jaire Alexander. All out, yet the Packers found a way.
I don’t know where this Packers season is going. I just know that Sunday was fun.
Unlikely. Preposterous.
But a lot of fun.
