MILWAUKEE — With the Milwaukee Brewers currently in first place in the NL Central, fans are getting excited about the potential for postseason baseball.
On Friday, single-game wild card tickets go on sale for the first time for non-season ticket holders. The tickets will go on sale starting at 10 a.m.
The excitement started a day early, on Thursday. Inside the Brewers team store during the lunch hour, a few fans made their way in to take a look at some new gear.
“Brewers are really doing well this season, so I wanted to pop in and check out the store,” Brewers fan Andy Tiffany said.
Tiffany said watching the team do well this season has been really exciting as a fan.
“Baseball with the Brewers, there is just nothing better than that,” he said. “They are just doing so well, a great team atmosphere, a great community and it’s just so great to see so much success here in Milwaukee,”
Jim Lawrence drove in from Middleton to get his hands on some gear on Thursday. He said he’s been a fan for his whole life, and even came to games at County Stadium as a kid. He said to see success at the end of the regular season has been fun.
“It would be huge,” Lawrence said. “It’s great for Milwaukee. I live in Madison and it’s just great for the whole state.”
While the month of October is always the goal, September has been a good month for the team.
“September is time when Craig and the team shine,” Milwaukee Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said. “This is no exception. The team is playing remarkably well, when the games matter the most.”
While the champagne remains on ice for a little bit longer to clinch a spot in the playoffs, fans are sure their team has the strength to go the distance this season.
“Hopefully we can just keep winning games one game at a time,” Tiffany said.
Many fans have a positive outlook as the team looks to head into the postseason for the fifth time in six seasons, which fans hope could end with their first World Series Championship.
Following the Brewers' win on Thursday against the Cardinals, their magic number is down to only three to clinch the division championship. If the Cubs lose on Thursday night, that number would go down to two.
If the Brewers win the NL Central, the best of three wild card round games would all be hosted at American Family Field.
