MILWAUKEE — The first day of school in monumental, not only for kids, but also their parents. Eli Burgos is excited for his daughter Sofia’s first day of school at Milwaukee Parkside School.

Sofia is his second little one to go to school, Zoe is his oldest. Burgos said he and his wife, Krystle, feel a lot of pride seeing their girls head off to school.

He said when he was a kid, his parents felt the same way.

“My mother had a lot of tears, my dad was very excited, having both of them there with me which I believe is very important, for me kids to have a mother and father to send them off,” said Burgos.

Burgos said he believes the education of his children is a team effort between the parents and the teachers.

“It starts in the home, it starts with the parents being involved, because I believe you can’t just let the school do it, it comes home too, that’s why they have homework, and we are able to work with them, teach them and then support the teachers involved,” said Burgos.

“There is never a dull moment in K-4, from all the questions to all the excitement, all the just pure fun.”

Singer said she wants to teach confidence and problem-solving skills to her students that will last them a lifetime.

“I want the kids to always remember that every day is a new day, every day is a chance to start over and to explore and to try new things and it’s ok if sometimes things don’t work out. But you always learn something new every day.”

This is an outlook Burgos said both he and his wife support. He said, as a parent, he strives to always teach by example.

“There is no perfect way but as long as you are doing everything that you can to do it 100 percent and you are giving it your all, I think that is what really matters - and if you know everything you are doing with a pure heart, then you are a good parent, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

It’s a mindset that Burgos said he encourages other parents to remember as they support their kids growing-up.
