There have been moments in Packers training camp and preseason games where rookie kicker Anders Carlson looked wobbly.

Missing field goals in practice. Missing extra points in the first preseason game in Cincinnati.

Still, he’s looked strong in the last two preseason games at Lambeau Field. His 57-yard field goal on Saturday helped the Packers beat Seattle 19-15.

Just like with first year starting quarterback Jordan Love, there are likely to be ups and downs for Carlson this season. Those that look back fondly on Mason Crosby have every right. Yet, a clear picture of Crosby’s career in Green Bay was not perfect. He had his tough days too.

Carlson is not going to make every kick this season. There will likely be days when he disappoints himself, his team, and the fan base.

Still, when he comfortably makes a 57-yard field goal, you see a glimpse of the strong leg that attracted the Packers.

I’ve also been impressed with Carlson’s demeanor. None of this seems too big for him.

That attitude will serve him well. In good times and bad.
