MADISON, Wis. — Goodman Pool was packed Thursday, as Madison neared 100º for the second day in a row.

What You Need To Know

  • As the heatwave continued through western Wisconsin, pools were packed

  • Goodman Pool in Madison had nearly 800 visitors Wednesday, and that trend continued Thursday

  • The pool's season closes on Sunday, Aug. 27

Aquatic Parks and Program Coordinator Shane Martin has been connected to Goodman Pool since he was 15. He said they were swamped Wednesday and Thursday.

“We probably had 750-800 people throughout the day [Wednesday],” he said. “Definitely a busier day, especially because we didn’t have any day camps — those are done for the season. A lot of families.”

His team keeps an extra eye on everyone, but especially the lifeguards on days like these.

“Make sure they have ice in their water bottles; we get Gatorade, put it in the fridge. We got ice cream, Bomb Pops,” Martin said. “Then we also have free ice and water for the public.”

It’s nearly the end of the season for Goodman Pool. Its final day open for the summer is Sunday, Aug. 27.
