Over 65,000 fans. For a practice? Green Bay Packers fans love their team. There was further proof on Saturday at Lambeau Field for Family Night.

Two players faced more scrutiny than anyone else.

Quarterback Jordan Love is replacing Aaron Rodgers as Packers starting quarterback. And the Packers are hoping that rookie kicker Anders Carlson is good and steady enough to have the job that the franchise’s leading scorer, Mason Crosby, held with such distinction.

Saturday night, Love was well-received by fans and finished 11 of 19.

Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur praised Love’s performance, particularly in the two-minute drill at the end of the night. Certainly, more important tests remain for Love, but he’s doing all of the right things so far.

As for Carlson, he showed off the strong leg that induced the Packers to draft him. He’s had his ups and downs in practice, so the Packers had to breathe a sigh of relief Saturday night when he didn’t have stage fright and performed well at Lambeau. His only missed field goal attempt was more the result of a shaky snap.

Family Night is just a first step. As LaFleur said, it was productive, and no one got hurt. Now, it’s on to Cincinnati.
