WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is warning back-to-school shoppers about technology scams.
Technology has become a staple in educational settings; data from Deloitte showed that digital learning tools are starting to replace traditional school supplies. Tech sales have gone up by 37% year-over-year.
As families set out to purchase technology essentials for their students, BBB said shoppers should be conscientious of technology and back-to-school scams.
Half of shoppers shop online for technology purchases, according to Deloitte; consumers reported they are most concerned with quality and price when deciding to make a purchase. These shopping habits, in addition to the shortage of supplies such as computer chips, may limit product options, putting consumers in a “risky” position: Being in need of products that are not available from trustworthy sellers. This, the BBB said, makes scams more likely.
The BBB warned of fake deals and websites in addition to alluring ads. To avoid such scams, savvy shopping is a necessary skill, the BBB said.
