MILWAUKEE — With tens of thousands of visitors set to roll into Milwaukee for next summer’s 2024 Republican National Convention, those working hard to plan the massive event don’t have to look far for inspiration and ideas. Big festivals have already brought thousands to Milwaukee this summer.

“The Harley festival was amazing this past week,” said Alison Prange, chief operating officer of the RNC Host Committee. “Obviously they draw visitors from all around the world that come into Wisconsin and to the city — we’re taking away the enthusiasm with which the city is greeting people and with which the state is greeting people, and that’s going to help us build excitement about the convention next summer.”

The convention — and to a lesser degree, next month’s first Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee — will put the city and state into the country’s political spotlight.

But amid the primary campaign so far, the host committee has been able to focus solely on the logistics of a successful convention next July.

“That’s the good thing about the host committee — we’re not focused on politics — we’re focused on promoting the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County and the State of Wisconsin,” Prange said. “We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization and I think the best analogy to make about what a host committee does is to think of us like a Super Bowl host committee.”

The convention’s set to run from July 15 to July 18, 2024.
