MILWAUKEE — Local alternative hip-hop music artist NilexNile will take the stage at Summerfest Saturday.
Making music has always been a dream for NilexNile.
He said it’s been a long-time goal to make it as a professional in the city he calls home.
“It’s such a big dream as a Milwaukee kid,” he said. “Growing up you want to be able to touch these stages. You want to be able to grace them.”
Now he’ll get to share his music in front of one of his largest crowds yet.
“I’m very excited,” he said. “I think this Summerfest show is about to be everything I ever imagined.”
He calls his musical journey a roller coaster ride.
“It’s been very challenging to be an artist in the last five years,” he said. “There’s days you’re at a really high and there’s days you get to a really bad low.”
Despite those challenges, NilexNile said opportunities like this fuel his fire.
“You have to put in the work, you have to knock people’s socks off,” he said.
He gets to perform at Summerfest alongside his DJ, Larry Lacy, also known as Dj Light Skin Larry. Lacy said he’s excited to step on stage with NilexNile.
“This year we get to open up for a bigger artist so that’s going to be pretty cool,” said Lacy. “I’m a little nervous I’m not gonna lie, but it’s going to be fun. Definitely going to be fun.”
He’ll also get to perform some songs with another local Milwaukee artist, Wave Chapelle.
NilexNile said the journey of ups and downs will all be worth it once he takes the stage.
“I want to continue being in these rooms and places where people know nothing about us, but will continue to follow us after we give them an amazing experience,” he said.
NilexNile will perform at 6 p.m. on June 24. For a list of Summerfest’s complete lineup here.
