GREEN BAY, Wis.— As the Packers continue their minicamp, I had a chance to talk with rookie tight end Tucker Kraft. He was taken in the third round out of South Dakota State. In the second round, the Packers took tight end Luke Musgrave from Oregon State.
Dennis: How have things been going for you so far?
Tucker: It’s all about really applying the things that you learn on the field. I'm happy with how that process has gone so far. I'm having a good time, and I really enjoy Green Bay. It's pretty much like home. No traffic, really small town.
Dennis: Yeah, I've read a lot about that, about you. That this is really just an extension of the way you grew up, right?
Tucker: Yeah, it is. It's like the same size as Sioux Falls, South Dakota. So, it's really like the same thing, in the sense of it not being the culture shock to go play in the NFL and move to a new city. It's pretty much like I never really left.
Dennis: Some people were surprised when the Packers spent two high picks on tight ends — you and Luke. How is that competition/friendship going with him? Because you both want to stand out and get playing time.
Tucker: Yeah, I think the best thing about it is, we got drafted to Green Bay, a team that loves to use multiple tight ends. They love to run the rock at the tight end. We're all in on it together. Every single day, we’re trying to go in there and get better at one thing. Well, if you got however many of us, six or seven of us in there, all going to practice trying to get better at one thing, we’re just stacking days. You get 1% better every single day, and I think that just stacks greatness. I think we're all on the same page. We’re all trying to protect the G.
Dennis: You may not want to share this, but what kind of goals would you have? What would make this a successful rookie season for you?
Tucker: A successful rookie season? I get on the field every game. I got a smile on my face. I'm having fun. Of course, having fun comes with with playing meaningful snaps and things like that. But, I'm here as a guy to contribute in any way I can.
