CUDAHY, Wis. — The Cudahy Police Department said missing 6-year-old Madelyn Chitwood was found safe Friday afternoon.
She was found at a residence in her neighborhood at 12:39 p.m. Friday.
Police said they responded to a report from her family that Chitwood was missing at about 9:04 a.m. on Friday in the 3600 block of E Whittaker Ave.
Chitwood's mother said her daughter was last seen on Thursday night at "bedtime," according to police. Another child in the house told her that Chitwood was "not in her room or anywhere in the residence," Friday morning, according to police.
Police said other local law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the State of Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, collaborated in a coordinated search for Chitwood.
Chitwood was described as a white female, with short blonde hair and blue eyes. She is 4 feet tall and weighs 60 pounds. She is missing a front tooth. When she went to bed Thursday night — when she was last seen — her family told police she was only wearing her underwear.
The Cudahy Police Department said Chitwood has left her house before, and they searched areas where she's been found before. They did not ask for a volunteer search party. However, officials did ask those who live on or near E Whittaker Ave. in Cudahy to check personal video surveillance feeds and alerts, such as Ring Doorbells.
Cudahy police said the incident is still being investigated.
