MCFARLAND, Wis. — The network of LGBTQ+-owned businesses keeps going in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce has members all over the state in different industries. Now, many businesses are embracing their identity within their day-to-day work.
Kristin Ellis owns Farwell Gallery in McFarland. In addition to showcasing her own work at the gallery, she also displays work from other artists around Wisconsin.
As someone who identifies with the LGBTQ+ community, Ellis said it is important to foster a sense of community within her shop. In addition, she said she hopes to serve as an example of what you can achieve.
“I think it is really important for the youth to see that there are queer businesses out there, so they know this is a safe space that they can go in no matter what,” said Ellis.
Ellis is a member of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce. She said having a network of other LGBTQ+ businesses across the state makes a difference by providing an opportunity for collaboration.
“I know I have reached out to a couple of realtors letting them know we have tons of art if they know people buying houses and if they need artwork, they can send them here because they are supporting our community,” said Ellis.
