MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department Wednesday honored officers and civilians who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help make Milwaukee a better community.
Dozens of officers were honored, receiving Lifesaving awards, Medal of Valor awards, and Meritorious Service awards. While each officer had a different story behind why they were being honored, all had a reason to be recognized.
“These impressive stories of sacrifice commitment, courage, and dedication may make you smile, some stories may make you laugh, and some stories may make you cry,” Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told the crowd Wednesday.
Officer Shaundae McIntosh and Officer Chad Stiles, both of District 7, received the Lifesaving award. In June 2022, they helped render aid to a person who had been shot in the neck and was bleeding badly. The officers helped to control the bleeding and began CPR, allowing the victim to be stabilized.
While both officers maintain they were just doing their jobs, Stiles said it was nice to be honored.
“It is nice to be recognized. We don’t do it for the recognition, we do it every day to try and help people. To protect and serve, that is what it is all about, but we certainly are appreciative of being recognized. It is an honor to serve the citizens of Milwaukee,” said Stiles.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson spoke at the event and expressed his gratitude for all that Milwaukee Police officers do every day.
Spectrum News 1 morning anchor Pete Zervakis served as Master of Ceremonies for the Merit Award presentation.
