MILWAUKEE — Even before Giannis Antetokounmpo left with a lower back contusion, the Miami Heat was serving notice they were a serious challenger to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Heat’s 130-117 victory Sunday night in Game 1 of the best-of-seven playoff series at Fiserv Forum was a cold slap in the face for anyone who thought the Bucks could waltz to a title without adversity or resistance.

Marquette’s Jimmy Butler had 35 points, and the Bucks didn’t seem to have many answers.
One player doesn’t win a game by himself.

Kevin Love, who didn’t seem to do a lot for the Heat in the regular season, erupted for 18 points and drilled four three-pointers.

Khris Middleton was terrific, keeping the Bucks afloat with 33 points. You can say the Heat only won because Giannis got hurt. Still, Miami won and took home-court-advantage for the series away.

One game doesn’t make a series. The Bucks can still prevail. They’ll have to win at least one game in Miami to do that. Certainly can be done. Heck, the Hawks won there the other night.

So, not a great start to the playoffs for the Bucks. Put away the waltz music. This won’t be easy.
