MILWAUKEE — People planning to drink this St. Patrick's Day can keep it safe with the Wisconsin Tavern League's SafeRide program.

All you have to do is make sure the bar you're in is part of the program, and if you feel you or a friend is too drunk to get behind the wheel, an employee will help them get a free ride home.

The Tavern League said even non-participating bars will still help with a ride, either an Uber or Lyft. The goal of SafeRide is to eliminate drunk driving on Wisconsin's roadways.

St. Patrick's Day brings somber memories for a lot of bars and restaurants, many opened their doors for the last time on the holiday in 2020, and could not recover from the pandemic. Scott Stenger with the Tavern League of Wisconsin said this holiday is not just a day to celebrate, but also a day to support small businesses again.
