Marquette showed again on Friday that they’re much more than Big East Player of the Year Tyler Kolek. While Kolek fought through a thumb injury and foul trouble, the Golden Eagles routed Vermont 78-61 in Columbus, Ohio on Friday.

Kam Jones erupted for 18 straight points in the second half as Marquette pulled away and posted its first NCAA tournament win in 10 years. With their 29th victory of the season, Marquette set a new school record.

The games will get tougher. Marquette will face Joey Hauser and Michigan State on Sunday. Kentucky and Purdue might still be on the way before Marquette can get to their first Final Four since 2003.

That’s okay. They’ve earned everything they’ve gotten this season.
