MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police officer Peter E. Jerving was shot and killed overnight in Milwaukee, according to Milwaukee Police Department officials.

The 37-year-old officer’s death was the result of a struggle with a 19-year-old robbery suspect, now identified as Terrell Thompson, who police were pursuing. 

MPD said the incident occurred at around 1:16 a.m. on Tuesday near Milwaukee’s south side.

In light of the incident, many community members and local leaders called for an end to the violence.
