WISCONSIN — If there’s one candy Wisconsin is “MAD 4” during love day, it’s conversation hearts.
A report by CandyStore.com revealed the most popular candy for Valentine’s Day in the Badger State is the classic conversation heart. It was followed by Hershey’s kisses and a Ghirardelli gift box.
It’s the second year in a row Wisconsinites have ranked these candies in the top three slots.
The National Retail Federation said they expect Valentine’s Day spending top out at $25.9 billion. That’s $2 billion more than last year. In 2020, people spent $27.4 billion during the love-centered holiday.
Over the last couple of years, conversation hearts have seen a resurgence since popular producer Necco got ripped apart and sold in 2019 — it was a year without a conversation heart in sight. Sales went down by 24%, according to CandyStore.com.
But now, the “chatty little cardiacs” are back in full swing.
The average American will spend $144.56 on Valentine’s Day candy, about enough to buy approximately 48 bags of conversation hearts.
The online bulk candy store calculated favorite candies by analyzing 15 years-worth of data.
